A few good boys, from the same neighborhood church, with a love for God and music, got together and joined the church band. But despite playing worship music together, their lives were all on different paths, until Reeco, the only person pursuing a music career, thought the idea of a Christian band was more exciting than being a solo artist and rallied the troops! Enter, Reemon, the intellectual rapper and Kyle, the A.D.D drummer who make up the core members of A.F.G.M. Fusing R&B, Hip Hop, Pop and worship with their own unique stamp, together they create energetic, pulsating music with powerful messages that cut straight to the heart, build up, encourage and inspire.
A Few Good Men (A.F.G.M) officially came together as a unit in January 2011 and made a splash with their first single Like You on the local gospel scene in May of that year. The song was written by Reeco Butcher who has been involved in music from a very young age, taking part in many local competitions, and even won a popular local talent showcase, Richard Stoute Teen Talent. Then, he was quite popular on the local scene for his R&B songs and his smooth vocals and was always compared to one of his influences, John Legend. Reeco, a University of the West Indies, law student could not shake the desire for a long term music career, he wanted to take it to the next level and joined a development program with The Kairos Music Group. It was then that he decided he wanted to sing for God only, and he began working his way towards this new direction. Reemon, the younger brother of Reeco, was on a different path. His mother said she always knew Reemon was musical from the time he was very young. She knew she had two musical sons on her hands, it’s just that one grasped on to it earlier than the other. In 2010 Reemon decided to give music a real shot, so he decided to join in his brother’s journey which also became his journey. The Accounting/Economics major discovered his passion for rap. The music scene was new for him but his passion for music was undeniable and his passion for the things of God, infectious. Reemon fused the two, jumped right in and immersed himself into the entire process, complementing his brother’s smooth R&B stylings with hard core intellectual, Biblical rap lyrics. Then, there’s Kyle, not a blood brother, but he’s no doubt family playing in the church band with the brothers for many years. Also influenced by drummers, Calvin Rogers, Tony Royster Jr and Marvin McQuitty, Kyle also knew he was destined for something greater musically. It was a leap of faith and at the same time a no-brainer for him to join his “brothers” in pursuing a career in music completing the trio.
Since the May release of Like You, the name A.F.G.M spread like wildfire among the local gospel community. This lead to their first appearance at Gospelfest 2011. They released another single called "Stay Away" in September 2011, with more of a hip hop edge to it. The two songs were snatched up by independent DJ’s and gospel radio stations in the US, UK and the Caribbean. At the end of 2011 the band had the privilege of sharing the stage with Grammy nominated Gospel rapper, Flame, along with his counterparts, Young Noah and V.Rose. A.F.G.M has also been making their mark on the local fashion arena and shares their fashion views and opinions through their Tumblr blog and has also been featured on the popular La Mode Dimitri blog.
After a great first year A.F.G.M took some time off at the beginning of 2012 to work on songwriting for their first 5-song EP. On March 30th they dropped the first single off the EP called “Stronger Than I Ever Was” with an overwhelming response. The full EP entitled “#LifeTrends” will be released in the summer of 2012.
