It’s been a long road for 20 year old Brooklyn rapper Da Kidd M.A.T.T. Born in Washington Heights, NY, he spent 10 years in the Bronx, NY before moving to Coney Island, Brooklyn. “ I rep Brooklyn the most because I spent my teen years there and that’s where I learned to be who I am.” It was on the streets of Brooklyn that Matt learned the in ands outs to life on the street.
That new transition moving to Brooklyn is also what inspired M.A.T.T. to start rapping. “I was a normal kid running the streets getting into trouble until I learned to channel my anger into rhymes.” With influences in Hip Hop like 50 Cent, Jay-z, and The Notorious B.I.G., M.A.T.T. developed a passion for rapping and Hip Hop music at a young age that would be his driving force to pursue this dream.
M.A.T.T. began to express this passion to others and showing it by grabbing the mic and freestyling at local block parties in Coney Island, catching the ear of family and friends that encouraged him to take rap seriously and pursue a career in rap. He also caught the ear of a young up and coming DJ from Brooklyn, DJ T. Millz who saw potential in the young rapper.
While on a vacation in Florida, M.A.T.T. found out that DJ T. Millz had moved down to Florida and was living not too far from where he was. Expressing a desire to Millz to really go hard with his rap career, DJ T.Millz put M.A.T.T. in touch with a cousin that lived in Florida that had started his own label and had a studio, by the name of J.Red.
“When I first met M.A.T.T. he was 17 and fresh from Brooklyn”, says J.Red, CEO of King of Kings Records, Inc. “ He spit a freestyle and I immediately saw the potential he had, he just needed to be guided in the studio.” That guidance and persistence has paid off as M.A.T.T. has become a force to be reckoned with, priding himself on his flow and his metaphors.
Since teaming up with J.Red and King of Kings Records, Inc in 2008, M.A.T.T. has grown dramatically as an artist and entertainer. But the road to success is a long one and M.A.T.T. knows that everyday is a new experience and an opportunity to continue to learn and grow. He has released a mixtape “Think First…Money Later Vol. 1 which received a lot of positive feedback with Tracks like “Doin My Thing” that’s had over 150 downloads.
His latest single “Graduation” with new label mate K.I. Trubb is creating a lot of buzz right now in the U.S. and overseas with club play in the UK and radio play set up in New Zealand, Australia and Kenya.
The sky is the limit for Da Kidd M.A.T.T. With passion in his heart and focus in his eyes, M.A.T.T. is destined to be the next big super star.
