“As the beginning of ‘Mix It Up’ starts to lethargically rumble, the enigmatic beat soon takes hold, vacuuming its way to the surface before the throbbing bass bounces back for the drop. The track stays consistent with the addictive bassline twisting and turning throughout, sometimes dramatically, but still matched with the enchanting aftertaste left by the mysterious sub plots. It bubbles away before breaking loose again for a chunky finish, with the track, snake charming its way to the end. It’s a resounding debut from the young Birmingham duo that makes up Diverse.”

Stop Out Records representative on the continent, A.Dubya, released his second drum n bass rhythm, ‘Encounter’ in late September (2011) and with it carved out an impressive follow up to his debut. Using an admixture of digital & yet still organic drum n bass tones, ’Encounter’, offers an enticing beat which is introduced with a crackling beginning that pops & bobbles along frivolously before the not pleasant sound of a gunshot & scream declares the off. The bass-line line then kicks jaggedly, as though being jolted with a cattle-prod perpetually throughout the track. ‘Encounter’ is like a bare live wire being left to its own accord, aggressively swelling with every bass & drum threatening to spark at any moment. An energizing effort from A.Dubya, the track was originally released with the b-movie inspired b-side, ‘Planet of the Snakes’.

TheLocalGP released his second drum n bass thumper, ‘Don’t Take It Personal’, after a wrath of events throughout the summer of 2011. This gave the opportunity of giving the track a damn good rinse out, live prior to its release, to which TheGP done to great success. It’s another balls out, in your face dnb offering from the 28 year old, London based producer. The track gets under away to a roaring klaxon, with a dark industrial undertone drawing the hook of ‘Don’t Take It Personal’ out for an early entrance before the beat starts to head butt. The eye-gouging bassline then tussles & rumbles, shuffling away, punch-drunk to the snarling melody. The hooks are short & sporadic & the beats are dense & dynamic and as the track eerily simmers away it becomes clear it’s is conjured in the amon-revivalist caldrons cooked up by TheLocalGP courtesy of his fondness for early 90’s JungleDnB.

With its arousing sci-fi infused beginning the energy mustered in the formative stages of A.Dubya’s debut Stop Out Records release, ‘False Flag’, is maintained throughout as the track bursts into life like some form of ballistic projectile surging to outer space. With no concern for its own safety the bass line pulsates & jerks as if dodging the hard hitting & relentless drum patterns. The track thunders along at high velocity with the bass riding roughshod only stopping for solace just once before the countdown kicks in again & sets off on yet another g-force inducing journey. Absorbing everything it had already dished out whilst building its way to & beyond the bridge ‘False Flag’ once again effortlessly fires off into a whirling mass of kick drums & snares.

As the initial siren wails to signal the start of TheLocalGP’s searing drum n bass debut ‘The Reptilians’, a punching kick drum enters accompanied by the familiar rattle which is ever present in dnb classics throughout the genres storied history. Although don’t assume this is your standard run of the mill dnb track, this is an amon/jump up infused beat that will set necks breaking from worldwide. Hard, fast and aggressive ‘The Reptilians’ epitomizes everything TheGP is about. With a rolling bass line that captivates from the off, sporadically interrupted by staggering kick drums and extraterrestrial effects created organically to add atmosphere and authenticity.

As the bass drum kicks militantly from the off the almost regimental build up on Undrdog's début ‘Free’ is initially softened by eerie, oriental chimes that ring out over the narky growling bass line. A faint sample of “set me free” (the premise for the track) can be subtly heard, swirling in the distance doing its very best to warm up this ice cold dubstep cut. However soon after the drop, razor-sharp slabs of bass are sliced & diced in thin air as though frozen in suspended animation and quickly slashed by the pulsating melody which surges, once again from out of nowhere, as the vocal hook makes its stand electrocuting it’s way to the forefront.
'Free’ by Undrdog was released on July 25 2011 via Stop Out Records along with A.Dubya’s drum n bass remix - Both tracks can be downloaded for FREE below.
