ABOUT THE ALBUM
“In the past I’ve made recordings because I wanted to – but this is the first recording I made because I felt compelled to do it.” Into the Heart of the Sea is the personal journal of a life’s bottom dropping out. The thirteen songs are snapshots wrestling with death, loss, heaven, joy, faith, grief, and love, all buried within an opaque bed of post-surf, reverb-drenched cinematic sound that is at times as unsettling, paralyzing, and harrowing as it is candid, reflective, and a natural complement to a contemplative night drive.
Sonically the recordings place the listener in the midst of a massive ocean wave: breathtaking, powerful, menacing, unnerving, and ultimately richly rewarding. Aggressively stark guitars blend seamlessly into impossibly lush orchestrations while western pedal steel collides with urbane bass-heavy beats. Every song rises and falls like a storm-tossed wave as it tells each chapter of the journey.
“Thanks for listening to a brutally honest group of recordings. Hold fast to the very end. ‘Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea.’”

ABOUT ALLAN
Allan Douglas hails from the cultural cacophony of south Florida, where he developed an early passion for unpredictable pop music full of skillful writing and volatile sounds (from late-era Beatles to The Replacements). He played classical piano until he slacked off during college, faked playing drums in forgettable teenage rock bands, started playing guitar when he discovered surf music, and added bass to his arsenal after being immersed in the soulful sounds of Stax and Motown. After a move to Music City, Allan released his solo album, Lipstick Pickup, and EP We Were So Close, which sold tens of units each.
Now working in the always-surprising music industry, and lending bass lines, heartbreaks, and reverb to several bands – not to mention being a happy husband and father, which is quite what he likes best – Allan has not yet tired of playing guitars backwards and creating wonderfully mangled pop music – uniting memorable melodies and hip hooks to varying levels of fuzzy, drenched noise, a la favorite bands like The Raveonettes, Starflyer 59, and obscure Beach Boys records you’ve probably never heard of.
His latest project, Into the Heart of the Sea, is a high-water mark (get it?) of his creativity while also allowing him to put a not-fun time of his life to rest and get back in the right mood to write snarky blurbs. Into the Heart of the Sea is available for download at allandouglas.bandcamp.com.
