“I’m only Nine, and still design some of the phattest lines you ever heard, and that’s my word.” -CasperG
Born Derek Jackson, Jr -- “Casper G.”, made his earthly debut on December 1st, 1988, in the city of Plainfield, New Jersey.
With both parents exceedingly involved in the world of music, Casper G was literally born into it. As a child, names such as Sade, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, were as common as his own siblings - with one of his biggest influences being Jay-Z.
As he began to experience the different perspective music had to offer, one genre would quickly become his new outlet - Hip Hop. Intrigued by the way words were combined to paint pictures or tell a complex story, it wasn’t long before he began to paint his own pictures and tell his story.
At the early age of 9 years old he composed his first lyrics-- “I’m only Nine, and still design some of the phattest lines you ever heard, and that’s my word . . . ”
In late 2009, Casper G signed with New Jersey’s Fastest Growing Independent Music Label, FoQus Music Entertainment.
With his new-found label-backing, Casper G shocked music lovers with his “Just Listen” mixtape-album release, which some fans refer to as a classic, until today.
The mixtape-album brought Casper G almost-immediate blog and radio coverage (including a noteworthy mention in the prominent XXL Magazine article titled “Hip-Hop is Still Good: Let the Golden Age Begin… Again”); Jitternoise.com, Hometown Hype; Dats Dope Blog; and RunNJ TV.
Although grateful for his progress, Casper G took his new release on the road. He went on to be the FIRST Hip Hop artist (since 1961) to be invited to do an in-studio performance for Piscataway powerhouse radio station - 90.3FM The Core.
Not stopping there, the rising hip hop/r&b sensation stayed on the road by kicking off a multi-college tour (Rowan University, Rutgers University - New Brunswick campus, Montclair State University, Bloomfield College - to name a few.
Casper G is currently in the studio working on F.M.E’s Hop Hop and R&B compilation album featuring his labelmates Face 490, Landon, and MonCherie. The album is expected to drop Summer 2012.
