After winning a local band contest in Terceira, Azores, in 2002, Strëam’s career began to propel in ways they never thought possible. They were well on their way to becoming one of Portugal’s internationally recognized rock bands. The tour that followed gave the band the chance to winover the recognition of the public and for the first time they performed outside the Azores in Porto’s Fnac.
Four years later, Strëam returned to Porto with brand new songs strengthened by experience; recording them at the IM Studios with producer Ivo Magalhães. From these recordings came “Another Story”, the single that in late 2006 boosted Strëam notoriety worldwide.
“Another Story” climbed the charts in Australia in the Top 40 World Indie Countdown, a chart that lists tracks played in heavy rotation on Australian radio, moving “Another Story” to #16. Sic, a Portuguese television channel aired a special report about Strëam during prime time hours advancing the single to regular airplay on Portuguese radio. Antena 3 and Best Rock FM, both picked up the song pushing Strëam to being a featured artist of the month on Best Rock FM.
From an international perspective, Strëam’s success began in Australia. In March 2007, the band signed a contract with the New York record label Cutie Pop Records where it was launched and promoted as a single in the United States becoming well received by the US radio networks. In the USA, “Another Story” had also been chosen to be one of the songs featured in “Into the groove”, a Red Cross and Hot Sauce Records project recording and uniting upcoming artists from across the globe and releasing a compilation CD with the intention of raising money for charity.
In 2008, Strëam’s single continued to make its way in the North American market. “Another Story” had been chosen to be on the soundtrack of “Shred”, a film featuring comedian Tom Green marking the adventures of two professional snowboarders and their antics toward the end of their careers.
With great results of “Another Story”, Strëam teamed up again with producer Ivo Magalhães, at IM Studios, in Porto, to record their first multi-track CD entitled “Follow the Stream”. The CD, will be launched this May by Nine Media Records in Portugal, and includes photos from Rita Carmo, a photographer for Blitz Magazine in Portugal.
“Stand Up” is the first single from the band’s new album. It continues the rock sound that characterizes Strëam’s style.
