A self funded, deeply personal film made as a donation to MIND - The UK mental health charity.
As a fundraiser, we’ve launched a limited edition photobook for the project, with all proceeds going straight to MIND. You can buy them here…
Approximately 25% of people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year. Crowns & Owls consists of a group of individuals who are part of that 25%.
“WITHIN" is an ode to our myriad of collective experiences with mental health - an attempt of visually conveying the spectrum of sensations we’ve felt during the navigation of our individual conditions. The project features our long time collaborator, friend and fervent supporter of MIND Charity; Dennis Okwera.
Organisations like MIND provide essential services for people in the UK. The fight for better mental health is an ever-changing one and the conversation has reached new heights in recent years, but there’s so much left to do. We have to get people talking about conditions beyond just anxiety, depression and PTSD, we have to vote for MP’s who aren’t keen to destroy the NHS… we have to keep pushing. We are proud to support MIND through our work, in return for how much they have supported us as people.
Visit mind.org.uk/ to find out how you can help in the fight for better mental health.

Apologies for the clichéd plants/flowers shots - did not have access to a willing subject at the time.
The lens does not focus to infinity on my BMCC or 5d Mkii - the first shot goes through the entire focal range, so you get a good idea of what it can do.
The lens has a smooth aperture and long focus throw - perfect for video. It has a 15 bladed aperture which allows for a very beautiful smooth bokeh even when stopped down. This lens is often referred to as “the Bokeh Monster” - because of just how lovely its bokeh is.
On the BMCC, the lens acts like a 307mm compared to how it would look no a full frame sensor.
This lens is branded as a Pentacon - but contains Zeiss optics and design - and is very solid in construction.
Explorers is a idealistic look at the future of space travel, seen from the perspective of those who dare to venture into the unknown. The film is a tribute to science fiction films of my youth and to those real life pioneers that inspire it.
Completed in six weeks and done entirely in Unreal Engine 4. Mainly done for fun, to see if I could put together a decent looking short film using what’s traditionally a games engine.
End of last year I quit all jobs, married my girl and went to Sri Lanka.

Do you know the feeling when you just head out into nature. After a few kilometres you immediately know:
You just feel at so calm, relaxed and happy. You are at home outdoors.
Last march we traveled through Canada with a camping Car which we painted along the way.
And we really felt home.
