It’s so great to be back on the keyboard writing my first blog in a while. ” Love Letter” my new album was just released last week and I am touring around the country talking about it.
Every album I have made, holds a special place in my heart and I am proud of each one. However, I’d have to say that “Love Letter” is by far my most intimate album for a number of reasons.
I co-produced and wrote this album with my long time writing partner Jesse Tucker. We have written most of my hits together..like, Let’s talk about love, I guess, Fell Right into you, Best of me.. and basically have our own language when in the studio because we have worked together both on and off the stage for almost 10 years. Wow time flies when you’re having fun!
What I loved about producing this album is that every detail is in your hands. Everything was within our control and that is such an incredible way of getting to an outcome. When you get to decide how your record will sound from your writing and demo process all the way to the album being mastered and the order that you decide that the songs should be in on the album. It was also really special to have my touring band who I have also been working with forever, record on this album. It just makes it that much more special and meaningful.
It’s probably fair to say that I have been known over the last 4 years for being a hyper social person as in I have spent a lot of time on twitter and facebook! I have really enjoyed this way of connecting in the past but when I moved to Vancouver Island, and starting writing this album, I discovered the joy of unplugging and the truth is that I couldn’t have made this album without unplugging.
This blog and a few tweets over the last few weeks have really been my first attempt at putting my toes back in the digital water..so to speak.
My first single released to radio is ” Turn you Down”. Everyone has probably experienced a situation in their life where someone has scared them or made them question themselves. Turn you Down is all about this wizard of OZ like character who looms over you until that proverbial cloak comes off and this person who was merely up on stilts…falls to the ground. I had a lot of fun writing this song with Tucker and we had a great time getting the vibe that we wanted to get while we recorded this song.

The video was shot in Toronto with Margaret Malandruccolo who shot my Best of Me video as well as my I Guess video. CMT was kind enough to give us a grant so we could make the kind of video we had in visioned. I really didn’t want to make a video with a complicated story line. Instead this video was all about the feel of the song.
It’s great to be back blogging and I am grateful to be back at it, playing music and enjoying this ride.
Next week I am off to Hamilton for the CCMAs and I look forward to being part of the fun there!
More to come…
