John Legend - Tonight (Best You Ever Had) ft. Dunson (Remix)

The first time Phatboiz played me the song, I begged for a version with an open verse. As I was finishing my verse in NYC, John actually walked in and here we are now releasing the remix of it. The track itself just makes you feel extra confident about your game. I just put that in rap form. It was an honor to work on the record.

Dunson : “Ode to My Microphone” Preview [Webisode]

In January, I was given the opportunity headline the popular Sol Village showcase at the legendary S.O.B.’s in New York City. It was a packed house where the amount of support we received was crazy! The band came out for a set where we performed new tracks from the forthcoming mixtape, The Investment. The song previewed in this webisode is entitled “Ode to My Microphone” which is produced by The Phatboiz and will be included on the The Investment. The Atom Evolve crew came along to catch some footage of and leading up to the performance. They threw together a quick highlight reel to show how it all went down.

Dunson - Count On It

“Count on It” represents the unapologetic confidence you have when you have put your work in. I love how it incorporates a childhood sample that so many of us are familiar with. That helped me keep it ambitious but not overly aggressive! The underground success of Creative Destruction 2 opened up some opportunities for me. One of those opportunities was to work with Grammy-Nominated production crew, Phatboiz. After a few sessions together, they saw my passion and started to hear my increased lyrical development. That led them to cook up this track for me. I heard it and came up with the concept and verses immediately! We laid it down one night in NYC and the energy and vibe was incredible so we knew this would be the first to release off the upcoming project entitled The Investment.

Happy 2012! 2011 was definitely a year of momentum. After a trial and error in 2010 where I fought to find my lane as an artist, the self-produced project Creative Destruction 2 released in June 2011 and has reached over 130,000 downloads thus far! Through a combination of projects, shows, video releases and collaborations, major opportunities have developed for yours truly. That being said, I’d like to announce that I’ve made some minor changes that will take effect moving forward.

As matters progress, I have made the creative decision to continue my artistic journey under the name Dunson. This simply means that I will be dropping Kenton from the artist name. While it doesn’t change very much, we believe it represents a more defined character while allowing for a greater overall reach and impact. At this stage, I find it important to take the necessary steps to touch as many people as possible with what I offer as an artist. This allows me to accomplish that with more precision and less confusion.

I’m excited that we are nearly 50% finished with the new project which will be released for free in March 2012! The first single will be released this month! I have had the pleasure of working with the recent Grammy-nominated production team, Phatboi on a portion of this project while gaining some solid features which will make for my absolute best project to date!
