The Country is a Joshua Tree based band that features members of the Desert-Electro-Cult band Gram Rabbit with some fresh-faced Cowboys along for the trippy ride. Performing all original "Western, Space Country", The band has recently opened up for the "Queen of Rockabilly," Wanda Jackson at their favorite High Desert Honky Tonk, Pappy and Harriet's.
Influenced by artists like Patsy Cline , Skeeter Davis, Roy Orbison and that old Decca Records sound to modern day artists like The Handsome Family, Chris Isaak, Bruce Penisula & Amy Winehouse, Jesko Rabbit & Todd Rutherford wanted to put their own Western spin on things.
"We wanted a record that was as dreamy as this Desert we live in", says Jesko.
"This is our very first batch of songs with another about ready to go.. We have already received our first film liscense for the track "Desperate Heart" and expect to get more , judging from our success in this area with our other band Gram Rabbit..."
Success indeed. From being honored as L.A.s "Best new Artist" at the LA Weekly's Annual Music Awards to gracing the Main Stage at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, Gram Rabbit's sound and content have left it's mark on legions of devoted fans, media outlets, and industry folks a-like. And through four mind-bending records, Gram Rabbit has racked up dozens of licenses in television and film.
Armed with fresh new tunes and a dynamic live show, this Duo from the Desert are itching to add another chapter to their shared musical legacy. Care to hop on board for the ride?
The Country has had the honor of opening for Wanda Jackson, Camper van Beethoven, Southern Culture on the Skids and Brokedown in Bakersfield (Tim Bluhm) and will be opening for The StripMiners(Brett from The Donnas) on Jan.7th at Pappy and Harriet's....
