It’s been a big few months for Chico, CA-based indie pop trio The Make. What began this spring with a few semi-serious musical ideas tossed around between producer Jeff Schneeweis and his longtime cohort, bassist Trevor Sellers, has progressed into a full-fledged touring band; having made their national debut in October on a cross-country tour with headliners Mayday Parade. In that short span, The Make added guitarist/vocalist Sarah Ann, released their first EP, This Box, on NFL star Aaron Rodgers’ Suspended Sunrise Recordings, and shot a video with Sugar Ray bassist Murphy Karges. What’s their secret? “We don’t take it, or ourselves, too serious” says Schneeweis, an ethos that jibes with the band’s throwback pop sound and the tongue-in-cheek video for their first single “Get It.” “The idea is just to have fun and be genuine,” adds Sellers. “It’s exciting, to watch this whole thing go one way or the other.” From the looks of it, things are only going one way for The Make: up.
