Then Tragedy Struck is a solo project from the mind of teen multi-instrumentalist, Mark Mossberg who has an uncontrollable desire to write music heavy, progressive music that is more complex than what is popular in music today. He is the one who writes and arranges the music, records the guitars, bass, and synth, programs the drums, and produces the album as a whole. All in his bedroom. The quality of the sound may impress you given the lack of a professional recording and producing environment and the young age of the producer.
Then Tragedy Struck was formed in late 2009 and early 2010 when Mark first got serious about writing music and starting compiling short pieces he had written into actual, complete songs. The writing period for the first EP, "Requiem for the Hopeless" occurred in the winter and spring of 2009/2010 and the recording and production occurred during the summer of 2010. In 2011 he released a follow up EP entited "The Cosmic Aesthetic" was released the following summer.
The music is based on metal but is very progressive and expands into other genres and subgenres such as "djent", post-rock/metal, and jazz. The 2010 EP, "Requiem for the Hopeless" is currently out on iTunes and other music retailer. The 2011 EP, "The Cosmic Aesthetic" is currently scheduled to be released on Bandcamp but may eventually find it's way on iTunes.
